Corporate tax in Malta is set at 35% of company profits, however shareholders have the right to claim a 2/3rds refund on tax payable. This reduces the effective tax rate from 35% to just 5%, which makes Malta one of the most attractive jurisdictions to invest in.
Malta also offers a very strong advantage for holding companies due to the participation exemption. In a nutshell, a Maltese holding company that distributes its profits to the final shareholder will be exempt from paying further tax, as long as it satisfies the participation holding rules.
ABOUT MALTESE COMPANIES
A Maltese company is required to perform a financial audit at the end of every financial year. This audit must be performed by an independent audit firm, and signed by both the shareholders and directors. Following the completion of the audit, the financial statements will be submitted to the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), the local company house, and uploaded onto the public registry. We also may provide the service of a financial audit
